Mustaches for GRIP

Don’t miss your opportunity to be part of something big and hairy as Harvest Frontline Men’s Ministry hosts Mustaches for GRIP 2008!  M4G is an event to raise fund and awareness for the organization of G.R.I.P, a ministry in Chicago dedicated to reaching at-risk youth and discipling them to be followers of Christ.

Here's how it works

During the six-week, Growers sprout sweet, sweet Mustaches. Really, that’s it.  Per Mustaches for GRIP bylaws, they shave their faces, except for the Mustache, a minimum of one time per week and solicit donations from friends, family, co-workers, and people in the community. Kind of like getting pledges to run a marathon, just without the exertion, cramping, or dehydration. Call it a facial hair marathon.

At the end of the Growing Season, Harvest Congregational Retreat will hosts a Mustache Competition, which is a cross between a beauty pageant, dog show, and police line up. During the Competition, Growers, often in Mustache-enhancing costumes, are put through a test of mind, body, and Mustache and allow their facial hair to be evaluated by an independent panel of judges, and one Mustache is declared to be the "Sweetest."

So it’s pretty simple and silly, however, it’s benefits are far greater. The fact that a mustache is somewhat out of fashion will naturally raise curiosity in others. The novelty of a mustache and the attention it draws is the point of the whole thing, and it gives us a chance to talk to others about GRIP and why we’re doing this. Ultimately, we pray that this will lead to an opportunity for us to be active witnesses for Christ, just by letting your facial hair grow! Now that’s definitely worth sparing 6 weeks of our lives. So in the words of our founders, “grow with us!”
