02.05.12 | Quarterly Members Gathering

We are going to hold quarterly members gatherings in 2012 so that we can rally our members on a regular basis to unite around our common vision. We also want to use these gatherings to give our members a sense of what is coming down the road for us as a church. If you are an official member of Harvest please save the date and plan on joining us. Because we have over 100 members we are still looking for an appropriate venue. Details to come...

2011 Harvest Year Book

Remember when you used to get a yearbook on the last couple days of school and you'd flip through the pages and relive all the great memories of the past year? Yearbooks were a great way to capture the highlights of the past and we want to bring that goodness to church!

This year a newly formed team is working on putting together a small yearbook for Harvest. It will catalog personal highlights such as births and weddings. It will also have feature pages highlighting some key moments in the life of our church family over the last year.

It's up to you whether you'll ask your friends to sign your Harvest yearbook or not, but we think it's going to be a great way to see how God has been at work in our midst throughout 2011. It is our hope that this book will help us be thankful for the year behind us and hopeful for the year ahead of us.

The book will be available for sale sometime in early January 2012. The team is working hard to keep costs low and quality high, and we will only charge you what it costs to print the books. If you have any suggestions or questions about the yearbook you can send them to yearbook@harvest-community.org

You can order a book here.

FLAG Guide Sheets Available

If you're a part of a men's accountability group (FLAG = FrontLine Accountability Group), we will be distributing monthly guide sheets to help you center your conversations around a series of key topics. These are meant to serve as a resource for your group, not to lock you into anything. You can download the January FLAG Sheet here.

Help Wanted | Signage Team

The sign team is looking for more people to serve on Sundays. This ministry is in charge of setting up the signs that welcome and guide visitors to our church. We meet at 9:10 on Sunday mornings to put up the signs and we take down the signs after service. If you have 15 minutes before or after service to help out, the sign team could definitely use you! Please contact Steve Chin for more information.

Help Wanted: Welcoming Team

Recently, we've had some changes in our Welcoming and Food ministry teams, and are praying to find some new people to join our ranks.  If you are interested in serving and getting more involved in the fabric of Harvest, we would LOVE your help!  The more people who join our team the less burden or work it is overall because we rotate monthly.

If you are known to be joyful and have a great attitude and love for God - we need you, if you love food and enjoy ppl eating your food - we need you, if you have 2 arms and 2 legs - we need you.

Love Offering for Haitian Children

As we shared this past Sunday, we are inviting you to partner with what God is doing in Haiti through an organization called Haitian Support Ministries.  It is our desire as a church to provide an opportunity to continue the work that Jenny Bahng began by reaching out to Haitian children.

HSM is connected with Calvary Christian Church in Jacmel, Haiti.  Pastor Jean-Claude, a native Haitian, had a vision from God to feed the under-nourished children and preach the gospel to anyone who would hear.  This vision has led to a variety of ministries to children and orphans in Jacmel, teaching and showing them the love of Jesus Christ.

The next two Sundays, we'll be taking a special love offering inviting you to partner with HSM and Calvary Christian Church.  You can make a check out to "Haitian Support Ministries", and we will provide an envelope for you to mark which opportunity you would like to give to.  The opportunities are:

Give to feed children on the street:   Calvary Christian Church has two nutrition centers that feed 80 small children each day who are not in school and need a hot meal.  $10 will feed a child on the street for one month.

Give to support the schools:   The church is operating 3 schools which are educating and caring for 500 Haitian children. This includes spiritual education, health screenings, and hot meals. $30 will provide schooling for a child for one month.

Give to provide orphan care at New Life Children's Home:  This orphanage provides total care for 50 children which includes housing, schooling, health care, clothes, and meals.  $146 will cover the entire cost for one child for one month at the orphanage.

Thanks for your faithful partnership to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to Haiti!

Recycle Rally

Help your fellow Harvester win a makeover for his school. Davis Lee, who teaches at Courtenay Language Arts Center in Chicago, has invited us to partner with him and his school in the Dream Machine Recycle Rally. The grand prize is awarded to the school that collects the most recyclable containers by April 30, 2012.

How can you help?

Each week, collect plastic and aluminum containers at home and bring them to church on Sunday. Davis and his wife Anita will have collection bags set up in the back of the cafeteria where you can drop off your recycling each week before service starts.

Requirements:

-Plastic bottles must have the recycling label with a 1 in it. Please make sure to keep the labels on the bottles. (The barcode and the product label must be visible)

-Aluminum cans must have the recycling label with AL in it. Please make sure not to crush the cans. (The barcode must be visible to scan)

-Containers should be rinsed to avoid stickiness and odor
