Omega Course - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Who is required to take the Omega Course?
If you are a key leader (ministry team leader, primary community group leader, community group coach, elder, deacon, or staff member) you are required to take the Omega Course. We believe your ministry is too important for you to do it without being invested in. The Omega Course is our commimtent to your personal spiritual development.
Can anyone else participate?
If you are not a key leader but want to get more serious about your pesronal spiritual developmetn, we want to invite you to participate as well. The only thing we ask is that you count the cost and commit to finishing the course if you start it with us.
Where does the course meet?
We will meet at Hoffman Estates High School for the regular Thursday night sessions. We will most likely be in the cafeteria in the lower level. The overnight intensives at the end of each semester will be off-site. We will contact all registered participants with any changes.
What time does it start and end?
Regular Thursday sessions will start at 7:00 with a dinner fellowship. There will be about 90 minutes of lecture and discussion followed by some wrap-up and fellowship time. You can expect to be done by 9:30 PM.
Who will be teaching the course?
Jason Pankau, the President of Life Spring Newtwork and the creator of the Omega Course will be teaching the course live. Jason recently moved his ministry headquarters from Connecticut to the Chicago suburbs. You can find out more about Jason here.
What will the Omega Course be like?
Omega is about discipleship...about learning to follow and serve Jesus Christ. It is not a leadership skills workshop, though you will learn some practical things. It's more about character and the health of your soul. The Omega Course aims to cultivate that part of you from which life and leadership flow. You can find out more about the Omega Course here.
How much will it cost?
it will cost you $100 to participate in the Omega Course. $75 of that will go towards books and materials. $50 will help cover the cost of meals over 16 sessions (that's just over $3/meal). Harvest will cover the cost of tuition and venue rental (approximately $250 value per participant).
Can I pay the fee in installments?
We would prefer to receive the registration fee in one payment, but if you have some financial constraints, we'd be happy to discuss a payment plan with you.
Will childcare be provided?
We are asking parents to make their very best effort to arrange childcare on their own. If after you have tried your best, you are unable to arrange anything, limited on-site childcare will be provided at a reasonable cost (to be determined).
Are only Harvest leaders participating in Omega?
Several other area churches have been invited to participate and at least one church (Grace Church) has committed to join us. If you know of any leaders in other churches who are looking for a training opportunity like Omega, please let Pastor Frank know and we can send them a formal invitation.
What if I miss a session?
While we strongly encourage participants not to miss any sessions, we understand that business travel and sickness can happen. If you miss a session, you can get some of the content you missed by video (on DVD as well as online). Registered participants will be given instructions on how to view videotaped sessions.
I live far from Hoffman Estates. Will there be options closer to me?
Because Jason Pankau is teaching the course live, and because our resources are limited, we are trying to keep everyone in one location. We are working hard to make one off-site option available in the Naperville/Aurora area. No other off-site options are planned at the present time.
Will Harvest offer Omega again in the future?
It is our hope to have instructors trained up who can lead Omega Course in the future.
How do I register for the Omega Course?
If you are a leader at Harvest you should have received an invitation letter and registration form in the mail. if you have misplaced your copy please contact Susie Shin to have one emailed to you. If you are interested in inviting a leader from another church, please contact Pastor Fran and he will assist you in getting something sent out to them.
