Jesus reminds us in Matthew 4:4 that “People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” The Word of God is the primary source of nourishment for our souls, and we are strengthened when we regularly read it with open hearts and minds.

Study Bibles
Because the Bible is an ancient document it helps to have some expert guidance to unpack things that are not familiar or obvious. A study Bible is an excellent resource because it embeds useful information directly alongside the text of the Bible. Many include helpful things like timelines, maps, pictures, and background information as well. Journaling study Bibles also include space to record your own notes in the margins. Below are some links for study Bibles in various translations to get you started.
The English Standard Version (ESV) is a more word-for-word translation of the original Greek and Hebrew texts. It is technically more accurate but the English can be less intuitive. The New Living Translation (NLT) is a more thought-for-thought translation of the original texts, capturing the essential meaning in clearer English. The New International Version (NIV) is a happy medium between the ESV and NLT.
- NIV Foundation Study Bible ($18.22)
- NIV Quest Study Bible ($41.54)
- NLT Spiritual Growth Study Bible ($32.75)
- NLT Life Application Study Bible ($47.98)
- ESV Journaling Study Bible – Artist Series ($35.16)
- ESV Journaling Study Bible ($37.86)
